The Celebrations

The mood was upbeat. Wide grins lit up the faces of everyone. Little boys with torn trousers were running around happily, shrieking in excitement. Girls could be seen playing "Palankuli" with equal excitement. All the houses in the village had been given a fresh coat of paint. The youth were having "kallacharayam" and one could find them sniffing each others head as "oorgai" was not available! Villagers from neighbouring Senkotai could be seen coming in trucks, vans ,bullock carts and even on buffaloes. The sound of crackers blasted the eardrums. Shrieks could be heard when a rocket deviated from its path and entered into the "Lungi" of one of the guys standing nearby! More shrieks followed as another rocket lost track and tore off the "komanam" of a poor old man. The speakers tied to the lampposts were blaring "Randaka Randaka". Mayilattam, Oyyillattam, Karakattam were arranged for the evening and Cabera dance for the night.Sheeps were brought for the "keda virunthu".Special screening of Vathiyar’s "Padakoti" was going on in Thaibala D.T.S theatre.
Now the question on everyone's lip is "Where and Why?"

Well, this happened last Sunday in Tenkasi. "The reason?"

Tenkasi’s "Mannin mainthan", "Engineer mama" Sankara Narayana (My college class mate) went to Delhi in a flight!!
