Internet Revolutions

Off late, I have found myself getting hooked to the Internet. With the sudden explosion in the user driven content in the World Wide Web, we are no longer mere passive observers. Instead we find ourselves in a position, were we drive the content that is getting updated and read all over the world. We the people (Bloggers, Wordpressers, Flickres,Wikipedites,YouTubers etc.,) have become the unofficial news providers and entertainers to the rest of the world.

My major contribution to the Web 2.0 (a jargon for the present user driven internet) is of course the content you are reading right now; my blog. When I was unaware of the technology and benefits of the blog, I had the practice of mailing my write-ups to my friends. Though I was extremely happy with the positive response that I got from my friends through reply mails, I was left wondering over one particular aspect. Were my mails welcome everywhere? There as well might be a few guys who were deleting my mails without even bothering to open it. Why should I make them go through this trouble? Would it not be wonderful if I exactly knew who my target audiences were?

It was at this particular time that Nero urged me to start a blog. So, here was a site that not only allowed me to publish my content on the net but also allowed me to get feedbacks about it too!! Wow! Moreover with the blog, I was not going to force my way into peoples mailboxes and end up in the trash bin along with mails with subject lines that read “Want a bigger P***s? Use our product!!!” Only guys who were genuinely interested would take the pains of typing out my blog URL in the address bar and check out the content.

Moreover, with my mail write-ups, I was restricting myself to a very tiny audience in comparison to the audience that the WWW brings with it!! But till date, I am totally in the dark about the rough estimate of the number of people who read my blog!! If I were to go only by the comments received in the comments column then I would conclude there are only a handful of people who check out this site. But being the optimist that I am trying to be(!!) I always assume that there are actually a few million people who are reading these words, but only a small fraction of them are active enough to move their hands and fingers and exercise their tiny brains a bit to come up with comments. The rest are just lazy dung bags!!!! I came to this great conclusion when I found that I myself am a dung bag when it comes to commenting on other people’s blogs! I have read a good number of wonderful blogs but nevertheless left the place as quietly as I had entered; without leaving a word!! So, that explains the lukewarm response to my blog!!!!

There have been instances when I have stopped posting content in my blog with the thought “Who cares? No one would ever notice” and ended up thinking of the content for the next post because all of a sudden a friend of mine from the United States calls up and quizzes me on why the hell I have been not updating my blog!!!

“Ah! Someone does notice indeed!!!”

But how does one know when a blog is updated? Checking it out every now and then right? Wrong!!! All you need to have is Feedreader software installed in your machine. A feedreader is a program available in the internet for free. Once you download it, you can key in all your favorite blogs and websites to get updated lists the moment the content is updated. Everything in the comfort of your desktop!! How do you like that?

The feedreader software searches for RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds in the website you have mentioned and immediately hooks to it (If available) and provides you the required data. This is really a very exciting and interesting neat tool that I am using these days. I had been trying to understand this RSS feed and atom feed stuff for some time now and only now I realize they are indeed really simple syndication methods as the name suggests!

Stumbleupon is another extremely useful and wonderful tool that I would highly recommend to you guys. I in fact stumbled upon the Stumbleupon tool when I downloaded and installed the IE7 version. It came as add on feature with it. As we all know, the WWW contains millions of webpages in it. How do you browse only the sites that might be of interest to you? How do you know what their URL’s are?

Just Stumbleupon them!!! Once you have signed up, this tool lists out a number of categories from which you can choose the fields you are interested in. Once that is done, you are all set to stumble upon millions of sites-all relevant to your tastes! As you keep pressing the stumble icon, a new random interesting website is displayed and chances are pretty high that you would end up adding it to your favorites list or rather use the feedreader to feed you with updates from the site!!!

Go on! Use the net! Stumble upon creativity, Feed the reader in you!

The Internet being a very exhaustive subject I am might as well try and come up with another post (Now stop making a face!) Till then keep me posted on any other interesting happenings in the wide world of the WORLD WIDE WEB

(Use the comments section at least now, you dung bag!!! Common! You can do it! It's just a click away ;) )

dude,

there are tons of rss readers.. google reader is pretty simple to use and works nice with firefox.. infact firefox was the first browser to bring in feeds and with 2.0, u can choose ur fav reader while bookmarking a feed.. yahoo mail beta has a reader too, if u know where to look..

and FYI there are some tools (incidentally from Web 1.0 itself) for monitering website traffic.. both free and paid.. which u can embed in ur page.. so u can get happier by looking at some numbers than the comments section :D

btw, nice change of template (the last time i read ur blogpage, it was black!) nd i always use google reader

Aaga!! "user driven content", "target audience" and all.. maybe we ought to exchange places ;)
(People still delete your 'please read the new entry on my blog' mails without reading them. Pity.)

:P

Nero is not a dung bag.

Dude!! Thanks for your valuable inputs. I checked out google reader, but looks like you got to login every time to check out the contents. It doesnt look like a downloadable program which on one click hooks to the internet and updates the feed.Correct me if I am wrong.
And as for the website traffic monitoring methods, I do am aware of them!! But I am not interested in increasing numbers. All I wish is to develop a good relation with the viewers through comments column. A healtly discussion of atleast a few people is more important to me than a few hundred randrom hits... hope you get me.
