The Conflict

W
hen you are a blogger, with a blogging experience of a couple of years, there arises a conflict when you blog for your organization. You tend to bring in your own voice, your own style of saying things and proceed with little thought to what might be the requirement of an official blog.

This is what you write about a Picnic (Which you didn't even attend!)

A ONE-DAY PICNIC aptly titled “Fun in the Sun” was organized on Saturday, the 7th April 2007 at the Blue Bay Beach House for all VBG employees located in Chennai.

The employees who had chosen to avail the facilities of the company transport assembled in the Chennai Area Office at around 8.30 A.M. A bus and two Qualis vehicles started to the beach house located in the scenic stretch of the East Coast, more popularly know as the ECR (East-Coast Road)

...when you are a blogger, with a blogging experience of a couple of years, there arises a conflict when you blog for your organization...

Packed breakfast ordered from the House of Saravana Bhavan, a chain of eateries well known for their lip-smacking taste was served in the vehicles.

The party kicked off with a welcome drink to receive the guests. This was followed by a host of fun activities, enthusiastically participated by our people. With the mercury raising many of the guests as well as the fidgety kids couldn’t resist the temptation of the cool swimming pool. So within a few minutes’ the sounds of splashing water and shrieks of joy pierced the afternoon air.

People who kept away from the swimming pools obviously had other plans to keep their cool! Needless to say, amidst the splashing water and shrieking kids, the clanking of glasses too could be heard!

This was followed by a buffet of delicacies to suit the tastes of both the vegetarians and the rest.

Evening set in as the hot sun lost some of its intensity and started signing off for the day. What is a better time than this to have piping hot tea served with snacks and engage in a couple of beach games!

With ball of fire totally out of sight, darkness started to fill in signaling the end of the day’s fun. Exhausted in body but not in spirit our people trudged back to the waiting buses to get back to their destinations.

The picnic truly lived up to its name… it was FUN IN THE SUN indeed!

but after a discussion with your boss, this is what is actually published in the blog in addition to a couple of photographs.

Blue Bay Beach House on the way to Mahabalipuram was the venue for a fun-filled family picnic on 7 April 2007.

exactly why would the author write about an event he's not witnessed and expect a totally unedited publication?

First point, though it might sound like it, I am not complaining here. I just have realized that writing your personal blog and writing an official one are two completely different entities. I realize that one cannot expect everyone to have the patience to go through a verbose article. I accept the fact.

Second point.Though I had not attended the event, I contacted enough people to understand how the event went. Most of the statements are true and only in a few places I have spun stories out of thin air. The question was not about the credibility of the article but its tone and style.
